TEACHING

I have extensive experience teaching all age groups, from 5 years old children to adults. Whether you are a complete beginner, have had previous experience, would like to take exams or would just wish to play for pleasure, I can help you to learn this rewarding instrument.

I provide piano, theory, aural training and music history lessons and I can also help with GCSE and A-Level preparation. Being Italian, I am also happy to hold my classes in my native language.

I have been teaching in public and private schools for the last fifteen years preparing numerous students for their examinations up to Diploma level and helping them achieve wonderful results. Among my young students, some went to prestigious boarding schools, others have gone on to study at Durham University, Nottingham University and the London College of Music.

When I teach my first objective is that each pupil enjoys learning how to play the piano. With enjoyment comes practice and therefore progress.

FAQ

1. WHAT IS THE BEST AGE TO START PIANO LESSONS?

Generally, I teach students from age six upwards. However, every individual is different and if your child is able to read numbers, count, read the letters of the alphabet and focus and stay still for 30 minutes they are probably ready to start having lessons.

2. DO I NEED A PIANO TO BEGIN LESSONS?

Yes, an instrument at home to practise is necessary. This can be either an acoustic piano (new or second hand), a digital piano or keyboard. Obviously the more you are able to invest on a good instrument the more beneficial it will be for your progress.

3. DO I NEED TO PURCHASE SHEET MUSIC?

Yes, I will recommend appropriate material for each student. I am also happy to work on your favourite pieces as long as they are suitable for your the level.

4. WHERE ARE YOUR LESSONS HELD?

Lessons are generally taught in the comfort of your own home, although I can also undertake them at my home in Clapham Junction. I currently cover Battersea, Wandsworth, Victoria, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea.

5. HOW LONG IS EACH PIANO LESSON?

This depends on the age and the level of the student. For very young children, 30 minutes is the maximum lesson length. For more mature and advanced students, I usually recommend an hour lesson.

6. HOW MUCH PRACTICE IS NECESSARY?

It all depends on the age and the level of the student but, as general rule, small amount of regular practice is better than one longer session.

7. WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL A LESSON?

There is no charge for cancelled lessons as long as I receive at least 24 hours’ notice. I will always do my best to reschedule the lesson, though this is not guaranteed.

8. DO YOU PREPARE FOR EXAMS?

Yes, I prepare for both practical and theory exams. I mostly use the ABRSM exam board but I also have experience with the Trinity/ Guildhall board.

9. DO YOU HAVE A DBS CHECK?

Yes, I have an up-to-date DBS certificate (formerly CRB check).
