Generally, I teach students from age six upwards. However, every individual is different and if your child is able to read numbers, count, read the letters of the alphabet and focus and stay still for 30 minutes they are probably ready to start having lessons.
Yes, an instrument at home to practise is necessary. This can be either an acoustic piano (new or second hand), a digital piano or keyboard. Obviously the more you are able to invest on a good instrument the more beneficial it will be for your progress.
Yes, I will recommend appropriate material for each student. I am also happy to work on your favourite pieces as long as they are suitable for your the level.
Lessons are generally taught in the comfort of your own home, although I can also undertake them at my home in Clapham Junction. I currently cover Battersea, Wandsworth, Victoria, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea.
This depends on the age and the level of the student. For very young children, 30 minutes is the maximum lesson length. For more mature and advanced students, I usually recommend an hour lesson.
It all depends on the age and the level of the student but, as general rule, small amount of regular practice is better than one longer session.
There is no charge for cancelled lessons as long as I receive at least 24 hours’ notice. I will always do my best to reschedule the lesson, though this is not guaranteed.
Yes, I prepare for both practical and theory exams. I mostly use the ABRSM exam board but I also have experience with the Trinity/ Guildhall board.
Yes, I have an up-to-date DBS certificate (formerly CRB check).
“Marta has been teaching piano to my daughter Julie for the last five years. Her approach to teaching music is fun and she managed to develop Julie's interest in music whilst preparing and helping her pass her grades. Julie is now at Grade 5. Marta is a very skilled and enthusiastic teacher with lots of energy. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting piano lessons.”
“I have known Marta for 9 years and her teaching has been a wonderful experience and offered a solid foundation for my two daughters and my son. They are progressing extremely well and find their lessons very rewarding and fulfilling. I give my highest recommendation to any level piano student seeking a first class teacher.”
“Our son loves his piano lessons with Marta. She has been teaching him for over two years and he thoroughly enjoys her friendly and encouraging but firm style and always looks forward to his lessons. Marta makes learning piano fun, but at the same time, she is very professional and always puts emphasis on progress. She is a great teacher and I recommend her unconditionally.”
